Designed for King James I by Inigo Jones and completed in 1622, the Banqueting House is the only authentic, surviving building of Whitehall Palace which was the monarch’s principal residence for the period of 1530 until 1698 when it was destroyed by a fire. Also notable, Banqueting House was the site of King Charles I execution in 1649.
Originally built for social occasions for statesmen, the Banqueting House and Whitehall are both very popular tourist destinations located along the London sightseeing trail. It’s always worth visiting the Banqueting House; to this day it remains one of the finest banqueting venues in the capital and often hosts royal and Government functions, as well as high society events.
