Visit the birthplace of penicillin!

In 1928 it was Alexander Fleming who discovered penicillin and thereby offered medicine the opportunity to treat bacterial infections effectively. In St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington the visitor has the chance to see a reconstruction of Alexander Fleming's laboratory. St. Mary's Hospital is a hospital which is located in Paddington, London and was founded in 1845. Several displays and videos give a great insight in the discovery of a lifesaving drug.

The premises have been declared as an international historic chemical landmark by the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Since the laboratory of Alexander Fleming has been restored to its former condition of 1928 and incorporated into a museum, it is definitely worth to visit!

The museum is a member of the London Museums of Health and Medicine and opens for public from Monday to Thursday from 10am to 1pm, but can in addition outside of these times be visited by appointment. On public holiday as well as between Christmas and New Year the museum is closed.
Unfortunately there is no disabled access to the museum due to the ancient retention of the building.
