FREE ENTRY TO THE APSLEY HOUSE WITH YOUR LONDON PASS!
Apsley House is one of the dozens of fabulous attractions which offer you complimentary access by using your London Pass.
Apsley House, gallery and museum, also known as Number One London, home of the Duke of Wellington is located directly in the heart of London at Hyde Park Corner, on the south-east corner of Hyde Park. This specific nickname was given to the Apsley House, because it was the first house passengers, who travelled from the countryside, went by.
Apsley House was originally built by Robert Adam between 1771 and 1778 for Lord Apsley, who gave the house its name. In 1818 Duke Wellington authorized the architect Benjamin Dean Wyatt to accomplish renovations. The Apsley House was largely extended, and the architect's French style to the interior, mainly to be noticed in the Waterloo Gallery, which is one of London's most famous attractions, enriched the Apsley House.
The Waterloo Gallery is of course named after Duke Wellington's famous victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, which put an end to Napoleon's rule as the French imperator.
Thus a special banquet is still served every year to celebrate the 18 June 1815- the day of Duke Wellington's victory.
In addition to the amazing furniture and sculptures the Apsley House delights its visitors with a magnificent collection of 200 paintings in the gallery, which includes work by Giuseppe Cesari, Rubens, or Anton Raphael Mengs.
Apsley House is now run by English Heritage and opens to its visitors from 21 March to 31 October, Wednesday to Sunday as well as 1 November to 31 March, Wednesday to Sunday, as museum and art gallery.
From Apsley House it is only a short walk to London’s largest park and nearby attractions including the Wellington Arch and Harrods, as well as Hard Rock Cafe where London Pass owners receive priority and jump the queue and in addition receive priority sitting.
