Milan monuments and cultural places

Milan cathedral is the most famous monument of Milan, a Gothic cathedral that you will find in the homonym place, Piazza Duomo. Milan Duomo is surmounted by the famous "Madonnina", the symbol of Milan. A really imposing cathedral, brick with Candoglia marble: on the façade you can witness different refined statues and overshadowing pinnacles. In the interior you can find amazing stained glass windows and a lot of chapels and tombs of important people of the past. The roof is opened for tourists where they can see the lovely sightseeing of Milan. Its construction began in 1386 but the Duomo was only finished in 1965 and it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan.

Sforza Castle is a very famous castle placed in Milan. Built in 1300 by Francesco Sforza, the Duque of Milan, it has been modifies by later generations and after the Second World War damages. The castle is surrounded by a medieval fosse and composed by different tower, the most famous the Bona di Savoia one. The castle houses several Milan' s museums and gallery exhibitions: the most famous one is Pinacoteca where you will find a really rich set of paintings, the most famous created by Andrea Mantegna, Canaletto. Sforza castle host's also the museum of ancient art, the museum of musical instruments, the furniture museum and other exhibitions.

La Triennale of Milan is one of the most famous Milan art and design museum; placed in the Art Palace inside The Sempione Park, one of the most relaxing green area of Milan. Closer to the Sforza Castle there you can find a wide collection of Italian design and other beautiful art expositions. It was established in 1923 and it is one of the main symbols in Milan.

La Scala is the world's most famous opera theatre. It was inaugurated in 1778, a lot of famous conductor and singers have performed there as Arturo Toscanini and Maria Callas, Pavarotti, Jose` Carrera e Placido Domingo. La Scala's season opens on 7 December, Saint Amborse's day, the patron saint of Milan. In the egregious theatre structure where you can find 2013 places it is hosted also the Academy for the Performing Arts and La Scale museum: paintings, drafts, costumes and other documents from the past of this amazing theatre.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II takes its name from the first king of united Italy. It is a covered double arcade, finely decorated, one of the main fashion places of Milan. The Last Supper is the most famous Leonardo da Vinci's painting, placed into the Refectory of Saint Maria delle Grazie Dominican Convent in Milan.
