Trying to keep your Breakfast at Tiffany's down!

Mon, 9 Nov 2009 12:59:57 GMT

They put up with blaring mobile phones, crass hecklers, and people lacking potty training. And yet stage actors still manage to continue with the show. But if there were awards for greatest distraction overcome, Anna Friel would win this year's award after an audience member of the musical production, Breakfast at Tiffany's, vomited over the edge of a second story balcony onto half a dozen other attendees below.

Only aware that there was a major commotion going on in the audience, Anna Friel admits that she almost fudged some of her lines. Despite the major distraction, she managed to carry on with the show. It was only after the performance had ended that she learned of the cause of the interruption.

Some critics have noted similar disturbances of performances by theatre-goers. During a performance of Waiting for Godot, Patrick Stewart could not help but be astounded by an inebriated man urinating to the side of the stage.

Critics suggest such interruptions are the result of reduced ticket prices aimed at attracting younger fans, as well as the introduction of alcoholic beverages before performances and during intermissions. Nonetheless, such occurences are rare, so don't go to the show expecting to catch any extra performances.

Anna Friel has made waves for performing the role of young New York siren Holly Golightly famously played by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film in the nude.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, until the 9th of January, 2010.
