Warwick Castle, Stratford, Oxford and the Cotswolds – medieval castle and countryside in a day!
Back to UK Tours
Gift tours offers an excellent deal for this day tour to four beautiful and historically fascinating locations in England. It is amazing that this day tour manages to show tourists around so many tourist destinations in one day and this shows that the tour operators must have planned it very thoroughly. The tour starts with a coach trip to Warwick Castle, then to Stratford (the birthplace of Shakespeare), then to a pub in the Cotswolds and lastly to the university town of Oxford.
The trip to Warwick Castle itself is actually very enjoyable as the coach winds through some beautiful English countryside. Upon arrival at Warwick Castle it is hard not to be overwhelmed by the splendour of the magnificent castle with its defensive walls, turrets, moat and grounds full of tall leafy trees and shrubberies. Then once inside the castle, the numerous secret passageways and the dark dungeons are very exciting and really remind people of what it must have been like hundreds of years ago. One can almost hear the prisoners from the past yelling out to have their chains loosened and indeed there are rumours that parts of the castle are haunted by ghosts! There are also lots of historical stories to read about in the castle and some of these stories are about events that took place more than 900 years ago. On top of this there is also the Madame Tussauds waxworks show showing a video of the Earl of Warwick about to go off to a bloody battle. Warwick Castle dates back to the time of King William the Conqueror, which shows that there is a lot to learn about this castle’s history and visitors always seem to have many questions for their guides by the end of the castle tour.
After the tour of Warwick Castle, the coaches whisk tourists off to the beautiful village of Stratford, which is full of traditional English shops and charming tea-houses. Lovers of English literature are always delighted to come to this village for it is here that the great playwright William Shakespeare was born. His house makes for a very intriguing visit with its thatched roof and stunning grounds and tourists are also able to read a lot of interesting facts about Shakespeare’s plays and his impact on Elizabethan society.
It is an ingenious idea from the tour operators to include a delicious traditional pub lunch in an old 15th century inn in the Cotswold, just down the road from Shakespeare’s birthplace.
Then after letting the tourists satisfy their appetites, the coach takes everyone off for another scenic coach trip through the lovely Cotswolds countryside, past the spectacular Bleinham Palace entrance and all the way over to Oxford. There is just so much to see in this university town, but the tour focuses mainly on what is arguably the most prestigious college – Christ Church. Tourists generally find that there is almost too much to see in Christ Church with its spectacular cathedral, enormous quad and the Great Hall where Harry Potter was filmed.
This tour starts from only 69pounds for adults, 62pounds for children (up to 16) and 66pounds for seniors over 60. Tourists may go on this tour every day.
